Childcare Support Staff (After School Club)

Urgently hiring for Wednesdays & Thursdays.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.00–$20.00 per hour, based on experience and education.

Availability: We are actively looking to fill a part-time position on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:30pm-6:00pm. An ideal candidate for this position has availability during afterschool hours on other weekdays as well to fill in as a substitute.

Position Overview

Childcare Support Staff are the enthusiastic, positive, and caring leaders of our After School Club program, serving elementary-age (Kindergarten through 6th Grade) students from Wilbur McMahon School. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children, fostering a supportive environment, and contributing to community-centered programming.

Responsibilities

  • Provide attentive, compassionate care to After School Club participants

  • Offering homework help and academic guidance

  • Engaging children in age-appropriate games and activities

  • Preparing and serving snacks during snack time

  • Foster a inclusive, and welcoming learning environment

  • Implement classroom management strategies when appropriate

  • Maintain a safe environment, including implementing food safety measures and administering basic first aid

  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, parents/guardians, program leadership, and the Wilbur McMahon School staff and Administration

  • Uphold all organizational policies related to child safety and program operations

  • Maintain licensing requirements as mandated by the Rhode Island Department of Human Services including maintaining professional development standards, and ensuring mandated reporting requirements are met per law (RIGL §40-11-3)

  • Assist with the opening and closing of the childcare facility, including real time maintenance and cleaning as appropriate

Qualifications

  • Candidates must be at least 16 years of age, ages 18+ preferred

  • Experience working with children (formal or informal) preferred

  • Ability to lead activities such as crafts and games, supervise groups of up to 13 children, and foster a positive atmosphere

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills

  • Demonstrated reliability, patience, adaptability, and an upbeat attitude

  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain as part of paid onboarding)

  • Successfully pass all screening requirements of the Department of Human Services including comprehensive background checks

  • High level of proficiency in Google Suite (or willingness to learn)

Physical Requirements

This position requires some amount of sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, lightly running, bending, throwing, carrying a tote bag of supplies, leading a wagon of supplies and other childcare-related movements and positions.

This position requires staff to be both indoor and outdoors. Staff are expected to dress as appropriate for the weather.
