Job description:
Afterschool Childcare Substitute Teachers are our go-to staff when we need extra hands on deck! When called in, our staff will actively participate in our After School Club program. Substitute teachers have the right of first refusal when regularly scheduled positions arise, or we are in need of additional staff for our Camp offerings (i.e., Vacation Camp and Summer Camp).
Our After School Club serves the elementary-age students, grades K-6, of our partnering school, Wilbur McMahon. Our staff's goal is to ensure children's needs are being met, whether that be through homework help, playing games, or serving food during snack time.
This position will also have the opportunity to work at additional children’s events and activities, including but not limited to: Children’s Movie Night (monthly), Fun for the Family events (monthly), the Easter Spree (annually), our Memorial Day Celebration (annually), as well as other seasonal events.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Advocate for the mission of the organization and uphold the agency’s values
Ensure children’s basic needs are being met, including implementing food safety measures and administering basic first aid
Assist children with homework and tutoring
Assist children with activities and programming
Redirect children's behavior where and when appropriate
Ensure mandated reporting requirements are met per law (RIGL §40-11-3)
Maintain positive communication with families and the Wilbur McMahon School staff and Administration
Assist with the opening and closing of the childcare facility, including real time maintenance and cleaning as appropriate
Requirements:
Successfully pass all screening requirements of the Department of Human Services including comprehensive background checks
Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities
Upbeat, positive demeanor and attitude
High level of proficiency in Google Suite or willingness to learn.
Preferred:
CPR, AED, and First Aid Certifications (Training available by request)
Experience working with children ages 5 through 12
Experience with classroom management, content creation, and lesson planning
